7 GST Voucher Mistakes That Break Your GSTR-1

2026-10-07 · 1 min read · हिंदी में पढ़ें

1. GSTIN missing on B2B ledgers

A B2B sale without the buyer's GSTIN silently becomes B2C in GSTR-1. Maintain GSTIN on every registered-party ledger before entering a single voucher.

2. Mixing tax rates in one voucher line

CGST+SGST at 9%+9% and 6%+6% cannot share a line. Split lines by rate — Tally computes correctly only when each line carries one rate.

3. Wrong voucher type for the transaction

Sales in a journal, purchases in a payment voucher — reports still add up, but GST returns read voucher types. Sales → Sales, Purchase → Purchase, Receipt/Payment for money movement, Journal only for adjustments.

4. Place of supply left default

Interstate sales with the wrong state of supply flip IGST to CGST+SGST. Check the state on every interstate invoice.

5. Round-off posted to the tax ledger

Round-off belongs to its own ledger, never mixed into CGST/SGST/Cess ledgers. A paise in the wrong ledger mismatches the return.

6. Credit notes without the original invoice reference

Unlinked credit notes get missed in GSTR-1 amendments. Always reference the original invoice number and date.

7. Entering vouchers in bulk without preview

Bulk entry multiplies one mistake into a thousand. Import with preview (created/updated/skipped per row), fix the flagged rows, then commit.

How TallyImport helps

Validation runs before XML generation: missing GSTINs, rate mixes and unknown ledgers are flagged row-by-row in the preview, so GSTR-1 breaks are caught at entry time, not filing time.
